about our bedding

cotton muslin

we use a 100% cotton fabric called muslin. it’s thicker and more textured than the average fabric used to make sheets. just like a new pair of jeans they can take a bit of breaking in. they become softer and lovelier with each wash, while retaining a rustic texture.

muslin is measured in ounces – the threads used in its weave are thicker relative to those of a fabric measured by thread count. our 4oz cotton may feel a bit heavier than other fabrics, it breathes exceptionally well. unlike tightly woven fabrics with small thread, it doesn’t retain excess heat or cold. so it’s quite comfortable all year round!

although this cotton may feel a bit heavier than other fabrics, it breathes exceptionally well. This is because big threads are used in a looser weave. The cotton doesn’t retain excess heat or cold like tightly woven fabrics, so it’s quite comfortable all year round.

dye & colourfastness

while all cotton will eventually fade, our bedding will remain true to colour for the longest time possible when our care instructions are followed.

just like a new pair of jeans, there’s typically a little bit of excess dye left on the fabric. if left sitting wet for a prolonged period, colour can transfer onto other pieces of fabric. particularly when your bedding is brand new.

as the fabric breaks in over time the dye will patina. areas of high wear will lighten. dark colours will show fading more than light ones.

direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight will result in a bleaching effect.

if dye transfer is a concern with your sheets you may wish to use pillow and mattress protectors. for babies and young children who may still have accidents during the night, we suggest vanilla – this colour does not have any dye.
